Valloire

Saint Pierre

Presentation
In Valloire, the rocher Saint Pierre via ferrata is in a class by itself. Athletic and impressive, it is the top rung of the ladder in via ferrata climbing. It is a memorable route, very airy and athletic, and is reserved for the most ambitious.

The route
After 150 m of easy path, the west face will delight thrill-seekers with the"doubter's ledge" and an airy traverse.

Then up an overhanging wall, airy and athletic, that will lead to the forest ridge, where a small platform offers a welcome rest and views over Valloire.

10 metres on an easy ledge will take you to the foot of a vertical wall, then up "L'échelle du Tychodrome" with a hard overhang at the end. One last steep and well-equipped traverse ("Le Balcon") and you reach the cross, top of the route. The via continues to the right (signpost).

Descend on a ledge to a footbridge, then vertically for 20 meters (do not trend left) and up again to the right to the chimney passage, the gorge that concludes the first part of the climb. The path then reaches the St Pierre Chapel and Valloire.

Note that you can avoid the difficulties of the ledge by taking the forest route to the left or the escape route to the right. From the beam, follow a great traverse with three footbridges and a ladder until you reach the St Pierre Chapel. Go back to Valloire on a footpath..

Access
Drive out of Valloire on the Galibier road and stop at the La Borgée parking site. Take the footpath to the left of the cave. The cable starts about 200 meters away.

Poingt Ravier

Presentation
At the foot of the Galibier, between the Vanoise and Ecrins National Parks, Valloire is a beautiful resort built around its baroque church.

First via ferrata equipped in Savoie, Poingt Ravier is a very inviting route, that will let you contemplate the upper parts of the valley and its proud 3000-meter summits, and at its top, will let you discover the charm of the Poingt Ravier hamlet.

An easy, but airy route for the beginner.

The route
The first cable goes up an open dihedral and a few steeper steps made very easy by good equipment. Several slabs lead to a leftward ascending passage, airy but safe.

Several new slabs and short traverses lead to a leaning platform with a choice of routes : to the left, the cave's way, easier and sheltered from the sun ; to the right towards the pylons at the top via sunny slabs and grassy passages.

A metallic ramp goes to the Poingt Ravier hamlet. Descent (regretfully) via the forest path or directly down to the La Borgée parking site.

Access
From the la Borgée parking lot, follow the Valloirette stream on its left bank for about 150 m, then take a footpath to the left to the foot of the cliff (via ferrata signpost).

Other activities

Visite of the Petite Ferme du Col (goat's cheese), walking, lakes nearby, auditorium, library and all sports activities in Valloire, including golf.
