Saint Colomban des Villards

Presentation
First via ferrata in the Arvan Villards massif, this route traverses a cliff dominating the road up col du Glandon. It reaches the summit of Mont Rond (1522 m), with a view of the Mont-Blanc and a downward panorama over the hamlets surrounding Saint-Colomban des Villards.

Its south-facing exposure allows long periods of access and ski-mountaineers often finish their day with that original activity... and without their skis.

A serious mountain route with a great ambience. Access via ski-lifts.

The route
After a short climb on a path, the route begins with a steep rock pillar, followed by a beautiful and easy ridge with a view over the Saint-Colomban hamlets.

From the top, a very airy footbridge passes over a first gully. Then a slightly descending traverse leads to a succession of ledges and a great rock face under overhangs that has to be traversed to a grassy ledge.

Go up a steep diagonal crack to reach new ledges and rock steps that lead to the end of the route and the summit of Mont Rond.

Several paths lead down (signposts).

Access
From RN 6, at the La Chambre roundabout or from A43, Vallée des Villards - Col du Glandon exit.

Drive through St-Colomban. The start of the path to the via is upward of La Chal, after a bridge on the Glandon road - Col du Glandon.

Other activities
Paragliding, walking, mountain biking, fishing.
