Grand tour of Mont Thabor
Difficulty

The route

This cross-frontier circuit circles Mont Thabor, shared between Savoie, Hautes-Alpes and Italy.

Please note that the length and succession of difficulties reserves this route to well-trained riders.

A stop in Briançon is advisable, or at least there should be an assistance vehicle for unprepared or exhausted riders or meteorological changes that can occur very quickly in the mountain..

A little history
For centuries, the Mont Cenis and Montgenèvre passageways have been competing for exchanges between France and Italy.

The Mont-Cenis will gain advantage and benefit from the rivalries around the Montgenèvre region and the hostile attitude in Gap.

In 1804, Napoléon starts the Mont-Cenis roadworks, which will employ up to 4000 Piedmontese workmen. The road across Montgenèvre will open to traffic in 1807.

What you should see
