Aussois, La Norma, Modane - Le pont du Diable
Built with the devil's help, according to a legend that unveils the great maliciousness of the Haute Maurienne women, the Devil's bridge punctuates a route that is replete with history (the Esseillon barrier), nature (the dizzying views on the Arc gorges) and mountain life (villages, the resort of la Norma, pastures). A hell of a day !

Difficulty

The route

From the center of Aussois, take the road to the football pitch. A long descent snakes its way around the Esseillon forts, 5 imposing Sardinian forts built early in the XIXth century. A trail avoids the road.

After the bridge and fort Marie-Thérèse, the route reaches the resort of La Norma (view over Modane).

Once across Modane, ride up the Arc's right bank along to the wind tunnels in l'ONERA (can be visited) and Avrieux. The beautiful path of Pont du Nant reaches Bramans, and then up to Aussois along the St Pierre stream…

Alternate route : For a shorter route (1/2 day), as soon as you have passed the bridge, take the way to Pont du Nant towards Bramans.
