Col du Chaussy via the Montvernier hairpins…
Difficulty

The route

The road goes up the spectacular Montvernier road and its 18 hairpins, and goes on, revealing beautiful views on the surrounding massifs, past the hamlets of Montvernier, and up an airy traverse in a cliff before reaching Montpascal.

Col du Chaussy links these villages to Montaimont. Once across the village - and before descending towards La Chambre - stop at the Beaurevers chapel. Enjoy the panorama over the Belledonne massif.

A little history
The 18 hairpins were built in 1934, so far there had only been 3.

In September 1944, Montbrunal - second hamlet above Montvernier - was burnt by the retreating German army, and was rebuilt according to a uniform architectural pattern that is so typical of many a village in Maurienne.
