 Discover
the little-known villages of Le Thyl and Beaune. Panorama at col
de beau-plan (view on the Aiguilles d'Arves, Croix des Têtes,
Crey du Quart, Les Karellis, and Valmeinier).
A little history
At the start of the circuit, in Saint-Martin-La-Porte, you can
admire the white house, near the church, a remarkable nobleman's
house, partly of mediaeval origins. It was the successive property
of the La Place noblemen, the Maréchal-Luciane, then in 1687,
the Alberts d'Orelle. Bought back by the village, it served as
a school till 1958.
At the end of the village on the road to La Porte, the La Buffette
mansion, property of the Maréchal-Luciane nobles between 1529
and 1895, boasts a magnificent entrance porch.
Below the road to La Porte, the round tower of Le Mollard (XIIIth
cent..), twin sister of the St Michel tower, is the last remnant
of the Luciane castle.

 The
villages on the route are all built on small plateaus (Beaune,
la Traversaz, La Porte…) and offer the same architectural style
: the front faces the steepest slope and all the houses are joined,
as a protection against the wind and the snow…
Around the villages, all the slopes below the villages have been
terraced.
At the end of the circuit in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, discover
the old town and its streets, Saint-Antoine, Saint-Marcellin,
former entranceways into the town, where you will see old arches,
front doors and paved streets…
There, take the rural footpath to visit the round tower, the highest
point in town, which dates back to the Xth or XIth centuries.
