A nice walk up the alpine pastures above Saint Sorlin d'Arves. Not a lot of elevation (700m), but some length. The only steep passage is after crossing the Féon, under the Borsa barn. This route should not be done in wet conditions as some parts of the path can be muddy and unpleasant. To the col : 3h. Elevation: 700 m. The path is marked and signposted.
From Saint Sorlin, take the trail to Prés Plans and leave your car at a place called Les deux ponts. You can also start from St Sorlin (+4kms).
The route
Walk over the second bridge and turn right at the first intersection (signpost). The sometimes muddy trail soon reaches the first cattle enclosure (close the gates !) and starts climbing. Then follows a succession of up and down passages on the right bank of the stream leading to the Pradel barn, where the path to Col d'Ornon branches out to the left (45 min.). After the Borsa barn (1850m), go down to the Féon stream bed and cross to the other side to climb a beautiful path with hairpins, the only steep passage of the route. The route then traverses the vast and grassy upper coomb to Chalet des Prés Nouveaux, (2126m). The col (2292m) is just above the chalet to the right. To your left as you traverse the upper coomb, the steep and austere scree slopes of Grand Agnelin. Nice panorama at the col (see below).
