Very easy and short route starting from the Galibier road (350m, 1 h). Like Mont Charvin in the adjacent Arvan valley, Roche Olvera boasts a central position in the upper Galibier valley and thus offers a magnificent circular panorama. Point 2332 on the Galibier road, about a quarter mile after Granges du Galibier (Beaufort cheese available). Signpost. Route Walk up the easy grassy slopes above the Galibier road. The route (no path) draws right (east) and keeps a good view over Rochers de la Paré and Col des Rochilles. A steeper, rock-strewn section gives access to the last grassy section near the summit. The more sure-footed walkers can continue on an easy but more exposed ridge to approach the rocky summit of Roche Olvera. Most visitors will stay on the grass and enjoy the same panorama over the upper Galibier valley, from Rochers de la Paré to Grand Galibier, 3 Evêchés, the Argentière massif and Aiguilles d'Arves.
360° panorama from the top of Roche Olvera To give the route a little more majesty (the summit looks much more impressive this way), it is recommended to descend via the Rabel ridge. From the summit, draw right (west) to a col and up again the Rabel ridge (very easy, look back at the summit), and the route ends at col du Colomban Noir (2405 m). Use the road to get back to the car.
