Mont Falcon (2625m), described here in a circular traverse route, spreads its long ridge in front of Aiguilles d'Arves. Valloire IGN map . 1350m of ascent for 4h, and 2h to go down. The section between Pré Coton and the base of the Chenallin ridge is fairly strenuous, steep in high grass and pathless.
Entraigues (1280 m), on the Croix de Fer road, 4 km before Le Chambon. After a bridge over the Arvan, turn left and leave your car at the entrance of the village. Go beyond the village on a trail.
Route
Walk
500 m, and turn left on to a forest trail that leads up to Pré Coton
(1607 m, 1h). Following the lower side of the field and circling
around it, you will find a forest path that climbs towards the
base of the Chenallin
ridge at alt. 2000 m without passing the Chalarin chalet. Walk
up the Chenallin
ridge to the top of Mt Falcon (1 h). Some sections may require caution
in wet conditions. The viewpoint on the Aiguilles d'Arves and de
la Saussaz basin is remarkablel. |

From the top, go south-east and down to Col 2483, then south-west in the Ruisseau des Aiguilles coomb to join the Arvan-Villards Gr towards alt. 2000 m. Go down and back to Entraigues. Before reaching Entraigues, enjoy the shade of the Mollard de la Croix hamlet.
Start from Montrond - Le Chalmieux. Much easier, and not a real traverse route.
Start
Drive up to the Chabottes TV relay station (1880 m). Climb up to Basse du Gerbier (2570 m), then traverse Gros Crey (2575), before reaching col 2483. Go up the ridge to the top of Mt Falcon. Walk down the same way..
