Very nice, short and easy walk if you stay at the col. Better done in Spring to enjoy the flowers in that secluded valley. 600m of ascent, plus 100m for Rochers de la Fornaise, 2h.

Start

The Noire Combe chalets, on the Beaufay forest trail. Take the forest road in Saint Rémy, turning right just below the power station. The road winds its way up for about 5 miles. Turn right at about 1 180m, when the road becomes a forest trail. The starting point is 500m after the second hairpin bend. Stop near the start of a small path signposted "Lachat".

Col de Pré Rémy

Go up the steep path. When the steepness relents a bit at the entrance of the valley, leave to your right the path to Beaufay. Walk past a hunting hut towards 1600m, then walk west into the coomb on a little trodden path. After a 30mn's walk reach the center of the Lachat coomb. Pré Rémy is on your right, at the top of a subsidiary depression ( 1955m).

Rochers de la Fornaise

From the col, go up the ridge that leads to the top of Rochers de la Fornaise. The path wanders among low bushes. Easy at first, it soon becomes airy on both sides and a few passages require caution. After a last steep grassy mound, you are on top of Rochers de la Fornaise (rocks, flat grass, sun, short nap, etc..). Nice view down the valley, 1600m below, and the surrounding summits, among which les Grands Moulins.

Descent

Same route.
