The forest and Croix du Cuchet, above Saint Etienne de Cuines offer a few very interesting marked paths. The lower section will take you to the deserted village of Le Loup and the Servion sector and its picnic area. From Servion, you can walk a forest path around the Barbouillon stream. The upper part visits the Croix du Cuchet (2102m). All the routes are marked and signposted.

1 - La Croix du Cuchet (2102m - 3h30)

In Saint Etienne de Cuines, drive to the center, turn right on to the Route des Côtes, and drive up to Les Côtes-Dessus. Park before entering the village. Go past a wash house and turn right on to a path that goes up in the forest above the village (yellow marks and signposts). Reach the Replat forest trail which the path cuts here and there, and which can be used to shorten the walk. Then follows a fine forest walk up to the Cuchet south-east ridge. The summit has to be walked around and climbed from behind. Fine circular panorama. It is also possible to go up very near the summit of Clocher des Pères (2418m) between the Marmottes and Barillet ridges. Another yellow-marked path traverses towards the Vallon du Bacheux, (see Vallon des Reisses).

2 - The forest walk (2h)

From Servion (picnic area), you can make a very pleasant forest walk. Go up the road about 100m and turn left (signpost). The path goes up to the Barbouillon forestry hut and down back to the road below Servion. See the ONF panel at the picnic area.

3 - From the valley

Take the road to St Rémy de Maurienne. One km after St Etienne, locate on the left the entrance of an EDF gallery under the mountain. The path start on the right-hand side of the tunnel (signpost). The route, on a pleasant and well-trodden path, visits the deserted hamlet of Le Loup, and goes up to Servion and the TV relay station. You can walk down to St Etienne via the villages of Mollaret, Genevex, Le Villaron and Montarlot (numerous paths).
